Presentation Title:

Realistic expectations for Midwestern cover crops

Summary:

While cover crops offer benefits, it’s important to have realistic expectations for realizing those benefits in a corn/soybean context.

Here I present three artifacts: (1) An online web application for producers to understand how much cover crop biomass they can achieve given the soil, climatic, and management constraints of their operations, (2) field and modeling research concerning cover crop weed suppression, (3) field research regarding soil changes (or lack-there-of) from long-term cover cropping.
