NSF Acknowledgment of Support

In papers that you publish or presentations that you give at conferences feature research that you conducted, in part or in full, while supported by the NSF NRT DataFEWSion Graduate Traineeship program, it is essential to give proper credit to the National Science Foundation. Even if the NSF award did not provide direct financial support for the execution of your research (e.g., costs of fieldwork or lab analyses), the stipend provided support for your time while completing your work and, therefore, should be acknowledged.

NSF provides very specific guidelines for the appropriate language to use in the acknowledgments section of a paper. This information can be found at https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/gpg/nsf04_23/6.jsp and is copied here for your convenience:

An acknowledgment of NSF support and a disclaimer must appear in publications (including World Wide Web sites) of any material, whether copyrighted or not, based on or developed under NSF-supported projects:

“This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. (grantee must enter NSF grant number).”

NSF support also must be orally acknowledged during all news media interviews, including popular media such as radio, television, and news magazines.

Except for articles or papers published in scientific, technical or professional journals, the following disclaimer must be included:

“Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation.”

The grant number for our NRT is: DGE-1828942

The following wording should be used when acknowledging support from the DataFEWSion NRT: This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. DGE-1828942.

 NSF Logo

Additionally, when you are giving a poster or presentation at a conference, you should acknowledge the support of the National Science Foundation and DataFEWSion ISU. This should be a line of acknowledgment, but can also include an NSF and/or ISU logo.

On the NSF website, there are several different versions of the NSF logo and their guidelines for use (https://www.nsf.gov/policies/logos.jsp).
