In his appointment with Roeslein Alternative Energy, Hassan Loutfi leads the Research activities as well as the collaboration programs with national labs and academic institutions. He is a registered professional Chemical Engineer licensed in both the United States and Canada. His expertise in the processing of cellulosic materials comes from over 40 years of distinguished career in Pulp & Paper Operations and related Engineering Consulting roles. His interests include cross-industry research efforts related to the potential impact of bio-energy demand on the sustainability of the natural resources, Geospatial Technologies, Nuclear-Assisted Biofuels, and advancing Climate-Smart systems for greenhouse gas emissions reduction and improvement of carbon sequestration. He has authored numerous papers and conducted conferences, seminars, and tutorials. Since 2015 he has been sharing his knowledge, skills and experience at Iowa State University mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in interdisciplinary curriculums such as the Capstone Design Instructions, the C-CHANGE Grass to Gas Initiative, the Multiple Flow Research Institute, and The DataFEWSion Traineeship Program. Shawn Richmond is the Conservation & Natural Resources Policy Advisor for Iowa Farm Bureau Federation where he provides environmental expertise in support of Farm Bureau’s members by working to implement Farm Bureau policies. Over the span of his 25-year career he has worked extensively on conservation and water quality efforts in agriculture, with experience spanning academia, government, and the private sector. He conducted wetlands research while at ISU that led to creation of the Iowa Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP), contributed to the development of Iowa’s Nutrient Reduction Strategy while at the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and led creation and implementation of a system for measuring and quantifying farmer progress towards the goals of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy while he was Executive Director of the Iowa Nutrient Research and Education Council. Shawn is a lifelong Iowan who grew up in Wapello County and now lives with his wife and three sons in Johnston. |
