Text analytics for supply chain risk management

Summary:

Supply chains are turbulent and uncertain under numerous risks. Text analytics could be the solution of supply chain risk management.

Along with the increasing involvement of supply chain stakeholders worldwide, most supply chains’ complexity has increased while introducing additional uncertainties and risks. Therefore, how to manage supply chains efficiently and responsively is now more critical than ever before. Text analytics, or known as text mining, is one of the rising data mining techniques nowadays, and it has the potential to address the challenges in supply chain risk management. The capability of analyzing unstructured texts provides the advantage of converting qualitative descriptions into quantitative data. Applying text analytics in supply chain risk management can offer companies intelligent solutions using massive textual data existing in many open web sources, such as social media and online news articles. This research focuses on applying text analytics to supply chain risk management, including risk identification, categorization, evaluation, and prediction.
